The palms of Sonora were important economically long before European exploration of the New World. Yet, Sonoran palms are some of the most poorly known members of the family anywhere in the Americas. Based on original field work and new analysis conducted by the authors, this monograph is a landmark for understanding these keystone species. Botanical descriptions, taxonomic synopses, local names, identification keys, conservation status and recommendations, and distributional and ethnobotanical information are included for each of the native palm species.
